Enjoying the little things. Blooming Marvels

It's a tad past the daffodil explosion, but all kinds of other blossoms are on the way in. There are hundreds of paperwhites in my front garden, put in place by the previous owners. Giant iris are starting to blossom and although the flowers that arrive each spring are of the same variety, I still marvel at the intricacy and beauty of the individual flower. The tiny shoot that grows taller each day, evolving into a lighter color at the tip where the blossom lies in wait, folded up like an umbrella. With the bit of sun that popped out after weeks of rain, the flowers slowly open, revealing gently serrated edges, soft shades of purple and white, and rounded, curved petals. Nature's gift.

Take note of any blossoms you encounter in your travels this week and stop to take a minute and really look at the color, detail and beauty of something, that while giving so much pleasure, is here for so short a time.

  1. Corinna, thanks for the really-take-a-look invitation. My husband's sister died last October, and he planted what he refers to as our Linda garden in our back yard as part of the little oasis he's created there beside our coy pond. We have hyacinths there now and late-blooming daffies. Love the vibrant colors and the differences in those two flowering bulb plants.

I'm jealous of your paperwhites! Paperwhites for us bulbs that we force indoors, and our decades-long tradition is to start them on November 1st. They always bloom by Thanksgiving and last until my son's December 5 birthday. They are such a gift of centered calm at a dark, too-busy time of year.

    1. Your Linda garden sounds lovely. I can almost smell the delicate fragrances from all those flowers. Hyacinths are so very sweet in the air.

I was surprised to see the paper whites here. And so many. They must do what daffies do. That would be so great to smell them on a cold dark day near the holidays. I'll have to remember that one!

  3. Noticed that the fields are filled with "weeds" that have tiny yellow flowers. Not sure what they are. Yellow delight everywhere.
