"Over the Top" |
I recently overheard someone tell another that what he saw was "over the top." Did that mean over the top in a good way or in a not-so-good way? For me, that phrase brings to mind things like excellence, an element of surprise, delight and creativity....pushing the boundaries, thinking and doing outside the box. It is something I see kids do all the time, in the way they dress, write stories, or make art in some form.
One of my favorite over-the-toppers would be Pee Wee Herman, with his very expressive facial contortions, exaggerated body movements and wildly over the top fantastic ideas in the imagination department.
For me, it helps to look at writers and artists who push the boundaries and create something magical, fun and memorable by going outside the realm of "safety." This acts as inspiration to take more risks, let go of creative fears and forge ahead, knowing the work will lead the way.
How can you push your creative work over the top today?
