Osprey |
Living for now on the east coast, I've had the opportunity to see local wildlife in all its variety. On first arriving here, I noticed giant nests sitting on platforms atop telephone-sized poles. These were located both near the water and on farm roads. Turned out, an artist friend had a nest in her front yard, overlooking the bay. Osprey. Each spring, they got a close up view of the arrival of the birds, nesting, and hatching of the fledglings. Some tense moments when the tiny birds stood on the edge of the platform, peeking over before taking their first leaps.
This little Osprey is made of needle felted Corriedale with a twig nest.

Corinna, your felted osprey is awesome! How long did it take you to create this little osprey. And where did the nest come from? Wow. Last June I planned a date night for my hubby during which we went on a scavenger hunt to find three known osprey nesting locations near our home.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dotty. I don't really keep track of time...sometimes I work on a piece over a number of days. Ha, the nest! I gathered sticks to make one and set them aside in a bag. One day, I said out loud that I needed a nest for this bird I had made. The next morning, I went to a local opp shop full of all kinds of oddball treasures. Some lady was in the china/dishes area. She picked up this nest..it had a fake plug-in candle in it. She held it up, declared how odd it was to find a NEST there (she sort of said it in my direction). I was so stunned to see the nest and secretly wished she would pass on it. She did! So it was there for me. Sometimes parts of my pieces have little stories in them. I had never manifested a nest before! Anything is possible :) YOur scavenger hunts sounds really fun!
ReplyDeleteI noticed a bird on top of one of those yesterday. I could not tell what kind of bird, but I thought they had found the perfect perch! This is so cool Corinna, and the story of the nest.. magical!
